Its all in the details

One of my favorite things about designing the look and feel of wedding or event is the teensy tiniest of details. I am constantly on the lookout for little items that will enhance the vision that my clients and myself are trying to create.

Etsy has become a wonderful source for such details. Hundreds of craft makers showcase their handmade items and virtually every bride will find her craft muse on this easy to use web storefront. Bridal shows are beginning to have more vendors with specialty services or products, and some have even embraced the idea of showcasing ONLY details, such as the Something Blue show.

Pinterest has become a huge resource for finding the new hot trends in details, and I have certainly contributed to that. To get myself on a design track, come up with new ideas, and piece things together, I browse Pinterest for hours and always find great stuff.

Details commonly looked over by brides include napkin rings/folds, bathroom toiletries and displays, signs to direct guests/denote various items or points of interest throughout the ceremony and reception, and ribbon ties. This is just a partial list, and these items may seem incredibly insignificant, when in reality they are the collective demeanor of your unique, special day.

This archived blog by Style Me Pretty has been one of my favorites over the past few years of the power of wedding details. Without looking cluttered or tacky, the designers have pulled off a stylish, sophisticated, themed and totally unique wedding look.

Detail inspiration can be found anywhere- that is why its so fun to do. I have pulled inspiration from something as minimal as the pattern of the crown molding of a room to the subtleties of the beading on a bride’s dress. Details don’t have to be small either. For a wedding I am working on this summer, a 6ft rock waterfall is being brought in to tie together the expansive lawn area and the nearby (heard, but not seen) creek. Check out this sneak peak from a photo shoot I did with Lucie XYZ Photography and Ingela Floral Design. The shoot was only one table, so we had to really define the small details and make them stand out on their own.
